During the upgrade and merge process the Live Messenger is said to be deleted (which is approximately true) and many users like me don't get their Live Messenger contacts copied to Skype (according to testimonials from many users on the internet).
If the user doesn't know how to get Live Messenger back, these contacts are effectively lost. And if you get your Live Messenger back, you still haven't solved the problem of how to transfer (merge) your Live Messenger contacts to Skype before Live Messenger is terminated???
Not only has this upgrade and merge process not been sufficiently tested, also Microsoft Skype is proceeding with the upgrade & merge process despite the fact that many users have reported the loss of Live Messenger contacts during the process.
This is a scandal.
Rest assured that you can't lose your Messenger contacts. Microsoft and Skype customer service can always restore deleted contacts (for Microsoft contacts you can even do that yourself on https://profile.live.com ). And then again: We're doing our best that this loss of contacts does not happen at first. So far we haven't seen any reports of real lost contacts. All so far were "Not showing in Skype".
Did you try the merging yourself already and have a contradicting experience?
Claudius, it would be really helpful if you would tell how the Skype team has addressed the issue contact transfer or more precisely how we can fix the issue at our end. I visited my Windows Live profile page at your suggestions and found nowhere that I can tell it to link to, send to, or otherwise transfer my MSN contacts to Skype. Skype is not even mentioned there. As a tip, please don't just tell customers something CAN be done -- tell us HOW. Many thanks if you will reply. I am sure many will appreciate it.
How can I get msn messenger back on so I can use it .My icon was canceled and Anything regarding it on my e mail bar is not functioning.
I do not want skype if I can not have seperate or controlling icons for live messenger.
I am having this same problem! I want the Messenger program re-installed without Skype. Skype interface is too cumbersome to use
My Messenger people are still on when I go to my email thru the MSN page and go to Messenger/profile, as to the skype not showing them, I found out that if I go to the SkypeSetupFull in my user/download file and open skype from there( it actually does ask for my messenger name and password) then all my Messenger and Skype are on but if they havent downloaded Skype then the video won't work yet.
I don't use Messenger nor do I have the need for messenger. So your merging has removed all but 15 contacts from my Skype account. I'm missing over 25 contacts. I want them back and NOW! All I can say is you really have a bunch of idiot programmers working at MS now who think they know what every one wants. Have no concept of "if it ain't broken don't fix it!" Spent a few minutes chatting with customer service rep who says I should have my contacts back in 72 hours. Why so long? Why not just email me the backup up copy from your server so I can simply use the "backup/restore feature" that was just added. Am I also to unistall Skype and re-install it to reset my contact list? What do I do now? Thank you....Very Pissed!
I upgraded to Skype 6.3 from MSN Messenger. None of my contacts came over from Messenger - NOT ONE! The contacts are still at people.live but none of the options suggested in the user community (that I have seen) have worked for me. Also, I log out of Skype and each time I log back in I get the error message that says "session has time out." This upgrade did not work well at all! How can these two issues be corrected? PLEASE HELP!
I've had the same problem while trying to mov Messenger contacts to the "upgraded" Skype. Luckily, I found my contacts in the MSN account, but need to transfer them manually.
Nevertheless I am happy that I found the contacts, regardsless of Messenger / Skype preference.
