I just tried to download MessengerReviver and got the message
"MessengerReviver-2-2-2.exe is not commonly downloaded and could harm your computer". Did anyone else get this and is it safe to proceed?

Microsoft needs to do some rebuilding of its public relations lately following the Windows Vista/8 debacle of recent years, Microsoft Surface limping out of the gate, and Windows Phone's imminent demise (c'mon, it's doing terribly, especially with the fading Nokia brand as host).
Maintaining the MSN Messenger service (sans Skype) running would be a show of good faith to their loyal Microsoft user base.

Microsoft has a long history of continuing down a doomed path regardless of the outcry. This is coupled with the delusion by many that Skype is a viable messaging solution. My only conclusion is that no one performed a gap analysis of the products before dictating the direction of the product line. The simple fact is that there are too many missing features in Skype to allow it to easily replace Messenger. In contrast, Skype is a great solution for video/voice calls.
I will continue to use MSN until the service sunsets and then I will likely move to another IM product or service, unless Skype can actually fix the gap items in their UI.
