Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

But isn't skype-ubuntu_2.2.0.35-1_amd64.deb supposed to be a 64 bit version?

For which reason it requires 32 bit libraries when those libraries are available in 64 bit?

Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

Skype is working and not crashing so much, but I still can't send messages to my friends. I get the yellow exclamation mark..In one instance my friend was able to send me a message but it's the only excemption. I can't send any messages to my friends anymore at all.. Is there a fix for this?

Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

@josian

The commands installed these files OK

sudo apt-get install libqt4-core:i386

sudo apt-get install libqt4-gui:i386

sudo apt-get install libdbus-1-3:i386

BUT

sudo apt-get install libxss1:i386

returned    E: Unable to locate package libxss1:i386

No big deal tho, Skype now runs OK

Ah, the mysteries of Linux, how I love them

Anyhow, thanx for your help

Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

über Terminal einfach mit "Skype" starten und es funktioniert, warum es sich nicht per Icon starten lässt ist vollkommen unklar...

Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

I have Ubuntu 11.10. Today I downloaded Skype 2.2 Beta for Linux for Ubuntu 10.4+ 32-bit (the latest supported version available). At first clicking on the icon on the launcher did not bring about anything.

After having gone to the terminal, having typed sudo -i skype and having given my (Linux) user password it works perfectly, whether I use start the application with the Launcher or with the Dash Home.

Hope this helps

Re: latest skype not working on ubuntu 11.10

I can confirm that the skype vendor is still unable to create a proper 64bit version. And the 32 bit version (disguesed as 64 bit version) is hopelessly broken. Ubuntu realized it and cut the support. Even the canonical repository delivers a 32bit version with broken dependencies: skype:i386 : Hängt ab von: libqt4-dbus:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) soll aber nicht installiert werden Hängt ab von: libqt4-network:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) soll aber nicht installiert werden Hängt ab von: libqtcore4:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) soll aber nicht installiert werden Hängt ab von: libqtgui4:i386 (>= 4:4.5.3) soll aber nicht installiert werden Empfiehlt: sni-qt:i386 soll aber nicht installiert werden I think since ubuntu is kicking skype, I will do so too. Jabber has the same functionallity and has proper native support. Without the 32bit library bull**bleep**.
