I have tried to install skype for linux and it will not install. I have an active Skype account but when I upgraded to 12.10 Ubuntu 64 bit .. Skype http://download.skype.com/linux/skype-ubuntu-preci
Have you tried using the version available from the medibuntu repository? This is the one I am currently using.
For running 32B software on a 64B system you may find some usefull information at: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/32bit_and_64bit.
I use Kubuntu 12.10 on a 64B system and the installation gave no problems. I hope you are successful.
Firstly, to install the medibuntu repository a guide based on using command line is at http://www.medibuntu.org/repository.php. This just involves copying the text and pasting it into your console program and it will insert medibuntu package ppa into your package manager. The packages available from medibuntu are listed for each ubuntu distribution at http://packages.medibuntu.org/
I was mistaken in thinking that Skype was only available from medibuntu. So, if you don't want to have the other packages from medibuntu it is not necessary. I always add the medibuntu ppa after each installation as I need the extra fonts and multimedia codecs.

Try this and it will fix your problem:
$ dpkg --add-architecture i386
sodu apt-get update
sodu apt-get -f install
Error in command - "Sodu" replace to "Sudo"
This is common problem in 64 bits for installing ubuntu
First a downgrade is required and done with the following: create the 'preferences' file:
sudo vi /etc/apt/preferences
and insert the following lines:
Pin: release a=precise*
Pin-Priority must be greater than 1000.
Then you may downgrade the offending applications with:
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
Then you may install packages that complained about dependencies, like
sudo apt-get install ia32-libs-multiarch, or sudo apt-get install ia32-libs.
Finally, you should remove the file you just created:
sudo rm /etc/apt/preferences
Now download Skype From Official website(skype.com ) for multi architecture
then open the downloded package from software center then you should able to install skype
