Transferring Skype to a new computer

I just got a new computer, and I want to transfer my Skype software to it. What do I do, in order to make sure that my current account is accessed when I use Skype on the new machine?

After downloading and running the installer, signin with your existing Skype name and password.

I tried this and I can't see any history. Did yours transfer?

IM and call history doesn't automatically transfer when you install Skype on a new PC but assuming you have the old computer available, you can transfer the history manually.

Call and IM history is stored in C:\Users\YourPCUserName\AppData\Roaming\Skype\YourSkypeName\main.db.  

If you copy main.db from the old machine to the new one, and make sure it's saved as main.db on the new machine and not a copy, your IM chats and call history will be moved to the new machine.

i want to move my snapshots and conversations to my new computer but cant figure out how to find it in the old one.

To move your chats, on the old PC hold the Windows key and type r.  In the box that comes up type %appdata%\Skype <enter>.   Double click on the folder with your Skype name to open it.

You chats are stored in the file called main.db.   You'll have to copy that file to a USB thumbdrive or some other portable storage device.

Then on the new machine, again type %appdata%\Skype.  Double click on the folder with your Skype name.   Copy the old main.db over the new one.  Make sure the old file replacing the new one, that it isn't added as a copy.

You can then do the same steps but instead of double clicking on the folder with your Skykpe name, double click on the folder called Pictures.   Copy your snapshots there and then paste them into the new machine.
