Do you also have Visual Studio 2005 or 2010 installed?

Do you have any 3rd party applications used with Skype, such as e.g.CallBurner?

If you PC is From Lenovo, is there a Blue Tooth driver installed?

No 3rd party apps. with Skype - my PC is from BRAEBO but its disc drive does appear to 'take' blue-ray disks [sign on front of tray looks like " b) " !? ] - sorry I'm a bit unsure -however,  you should be aware that I have a Win7 notebook and an older XP m/c upon which Skype works OK.

Theoretically this should not work, but because this was working for some other users, then you may also try this.

Right click on Skype shortcut. Select Properties and then the Compatibility tab. Check the option “Run this program in compatibility mode for” and then select “Windows XP (Service Pack 3)”.

Great - it did'nt work at 1st attempt so I went another stage further and intuitively ticked against a line that said "..........use as administrator......" which allowed me to load the program and play it. However I am not sure whether it has been a solution until I reboot the PC, wiil do that now and report later.

Rebooted the PC - a window titled "User Account Control" asked me "Do you want.....allow program......make changes....." so I ticked yes and it 'signed' me into Skype, then I checked its performance via the ECHO test and it responded OK [ to late in evening to check a video call to any of my contacts]. So we have a solution [of sorts] that I can put up with but am not sure how we achieved it. Thanks for your help - I owe you - contact me on ....[edited for privacy]... - signing out NWF.

Happy that it works for you, but this all was against all my believings

Skype should not work in compatibility mode and it should not be necessary to run Skype “as administrator”.

OK - taking note of your misbelievings - I r.clicked the skpe icon, in Properties I changed 'compatibility' to "Windows7" and switched off "...administrator.. " - then restarted my PC. After a few hiccups I was able to 'sign in' and run Skype - I then closed down Skype and restarted the PC - after a couple of refreshes of the Desktop icons [and 1/2 a min wait] the Skype program stared and appears to be working OK. Do you think we now 'sorted it' !? >nwf.
