In your case and your case only.
1. Please stop any and all running Skype Client programs on your system.
2. Using your Windows Control Panel Add/Remove Programs uninstall Skype, when prompted to save your history, choose yes.
3. Using Windows File Explorer ("What you use to view files with") do:
%appdata%\skype
If you find a file called shared.xml right click on it and choose delete.
4. If you see a folder for the Skype name in question, click on it, if you see a file called Config.xml right click on it and choose delete.
5. Using the Windows file Explorer enter:
NOTE: If This is a 64 bit system, please look in the program files (x86) folder
%programfiles%
Right click on the Skype folder and choose delete.
6. Please install the normal version using the instructions below:
You can install the current normal release by doing this from the top of this page:
Get Skype -> Windows -> Choose the normal release.
These instructions have worked for many and is the quickest thing to try to resolve issues such as this.
Also, what operating system are you on and do you have all Windows updates and updates to any hardware devices by the manufacturers?

Yes, this thread is not about ("Only") creating a portable version of Skype. There are hundreds if not thousands of pages on the Internet where those instructions can be found.
It is about not having Skype installed on hard drives of a system and confining Skype to a USB drive ("Only") on systems, which as a by-product produces a USB drive version of Skype which is installed on that USB drive, not simply copied to the USB drive.
Which is very different than simply copying a Skype.exe to a USB drive. Please read This: http://community.skype.com/t5/Garage/TheUberOverLo
If after reading the above from the link above still causes you to be confused on what the purpose is of this thread is, and what the differences are, please read this as well: http://community.skype.com/t5/Garage/TheUberOverLo

if the purpose is to have a fully functioning independent version of Skype in a removable or portable drive, I 'll go and advice users to try Ruwim's methods, especially for those who are not that tech savvy.

The primary purpose of these instructions is to "formally install" Skype, using the Skype msi installers, on a USB drive Only.
While also restricting Skype from being "formally installed" on that systems hard drives and restricting any re-installation or update of Skype being "formally installed" on that systems hard drives using .exe or .msi installers for Skype, unless that USB drive is connected to that system.
Without requiring that Skype be "formally installed" on hard drives on the system, to provide these restrictions.
Which, as a by-product, creates a USB Drive that can also be used, on other systems as well as the system in question.
Using these methods correctly, with other Windows security settings, can effictively, not allow Skype to be used on the system in question, unless or until that USB drive created via this "formal installation" of Skype, is connected to that system as well.
The same cannot be said, for simply creating a portable version of Skype, which does not cause/create any restrictions to any system restricting "formally installing" Skype or updates to Skype using .exe or .msi Skype installers on the systems hard drives when that USB drive is not connected to that system.

another thing I noticed is the Skype version installed in the removable drive or separate folder doesn't autoupdate.
