Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Dear Kurai,

Thank you for your advice on WAP GPRS settings.

I first tried to do it online with the link you gave the day before yesterday, but received nothing from orange although they did say on the website to wait for 10 minutes.

Then I called at lunch time yesterday and told them to send me the WAP settings.  They gave me a PIN and said to wait 10 minutes.  Nothing came well after 24 hours after that now.

So I called once more, today just now (5.30pm), and read to them the information from your screenshots from your mobile (this is nice how did you do it by the way?).  I did ask to speak to the second line as you said but the lady just kept speaking and I guess ignored that statement.  Anyway, she said again that she will send me the GPRS WAP settings and gave me yet again a new pin (different from the other two I got with my previous attempts that were by the way the same).

But this time she said wait for up to 24 hours for the settings message to get through.  I wonder if anything will happen by tomorrow this time.  I will keep posting my findings as this may help also other people facing all these problems.

But I agree with you: Orange are very inconsistent with their information and advice.  Had I not called again and stayed with the last advice I would not get anywhere (it was: "we can do nothing, sorry"...).

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

vsv20:

That's pretty naff... saying for you to wait 24hrs. it's a text message! Both things i tried came through within 5 seconds. Did they get your number right?

I can give you 0800 079 0200, which one guy told me to call back to and it got me to one certain technical department. You could say to them that GPRS settings have not come through in over 24 hours

You could try copying the APN settings from my screenshot. The password appears to be "Multimedia" according to one website.

As for screenshots, the Galaxy S III has a build in function to take one when you press the home and power buttons together. I dont think the S2 had this function, but you can get applications from the Play store to do it for you. My favourite was "screenshot" by "Kastor Soft" (it's free)

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Dear Kurai_Kitsune,

I am actually writing to confirm that your suggestion DID SOLVE THE PROBLEM!.  It seems that what users must do is change their APN exactly as you describe in your posting.

Android 4.0 on my Galaxy Samsung S2 has a slightly different menu to yours from the pictures you uploaded, but effectively it is all the same information used.

I have also used the number you gave me and immediately circumvented all the runaround with Orange custormer advisors.  I spoke to a very kind person who quickly passed me on to another person who sat on the phone with me and solved my problem (they called me on my landline and we had to input the information manually into my phone as the Settings messages they were sending me did not ever arrive -- that was another problem we had in my case).

I called them back and told them that this resolves the problem and perhaps they will now have this stored in their system.

I wish to thank you again for posting your solution.  I hope it holds for tomorrow again.

Until the next problem crops up, thank you very much.

I have posted this message below in response to your previous message.  Your solution works!

Re: skype do not connect over 3G: A SOLUTION THAT SEEMS TO HAVE WORKED!

You're most welcome  what we need is 50 people all calling them and telling them there is a problem with their 'orangeinternet' api. Oh and more kudos

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Hi Kurai,
Can you let me know exactly what your solution to this is? I'm a bit confused about what I'd need to do, as I'm also a frustrated Orange user, with the same problem.
Having said that to my surprise, I did log into Skype on 3G last night and this afternoon...
...but now I can't again.
Any help you can give will be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Stu.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Hi Kurai,
Looking at your post yesterday saying how you got it to work, I'm wondering if it still works for you or if you got lucky like I did yesterday and today, but can no longer log in on 3G.
Let me know.
Thanks,
Stu.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

...and - sorry to post so many posts - if it does work for you still and I phone them what exactly do I ask for?

The 'WAP APN'?

And would I be able to revert back to what I have now should I need to?

Thanks,
Stu

Re: skype do not connect over 3G: Orange GPRS WAP still works for 3G Skype connection

Hello,

Just reporting that my Skype still works today on 3G only.  This is the second day since the fix.

This followed my asking them to set my APN to "Orange GPRS WAP" and they gave me the settings that Kurai posted exactly.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Thanks vsv20,
That's good to know.

Guessing they send the settings 'over the air' to you whilst they called you?

And can you go back to the previous settings easily enough or would that be a further call to Orange?

I'll call them on the number Kurai gave.
