Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Hey guys.
Thanks for jumping in vsv
As for Stu: unless you've done it before the APN settings can be tricky. But the idea is orange can send you them over the air while you're on the phone to them, your handset should receive them like a text message within seconds. Similarly the website I gave at the bottom of Page 1 will let you choose your phone model and send you them without having to call anyone.

As for going back to the old APN (if they get it working) its the simplest setting compared to any other carrier. The only thing you need to type in the settings is "orangeinternet". There is no username or password to set up. I loved this because I used to switch between 2 sims and often they weren't saved properly.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Kurai thank you.

I'll try the website if  I don't get any joy with orange directly.

And reverting back would simply be a case of typing 'orangeinternet' into the name space in editing access point in the APN settings as shown in the attached screen shot? Nothing else?

Excuse my ignorance...just a bit unsure on this side of things.

Stu.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

The settings they sent me over the "air" for some reason could not get to me.  I had them do it 4 times but the SMS never got to me.

So we did it manually, by adding a new APN as per Kurai's instructions.  You just create a new APN with the infromation shown exactly by Kurai in his uploaded screen shots.

For username you set "Orange" and the password is "Multimedia".

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Kurai, vsv20,
Thanks a ton!
I've just manually set up a new APN on Orange GPRS wap and logged into Skype on 3G!
I recommend we don't tell Orange as they'd be likely to close this loophole too.
But I think all Orange Skype users need to be told of this solution.
Long may it last!
Thanks again to you both.
Stu.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Too late... I told Orange it works.

After all I think the solution came from them to begin with.

Re: skype do not connect over 3G

Well I think it is the right thing to do to tell them about the fault.

It does prove after all that Orange's network was at fault at least for our case with the particular type of mobiles (it seems most were Samsung Galaxy S2/S3).  In this way there is a precedent that there was a fix that only involved Orange.

If this happens in the future we should all mention to them this incident.

New Problems with Skype 3.0.0.6181

Hello again,

After a time when problems where resolved with Skype on Android for some people, I find myself in pretty much the same situation with the new version of Skype (3.0... see subject for version number).

Pretty much it does not work over 3G.  I am with Orange and suddenly the fix we had found (the WAP settings) no longer solve the problem.  The new Skype is really just stuck giving me the option to login again or change my password, whereas just a couple of days ago prior to this update it was working fine.

It works though over WiFi, it is only on 3G it does not login in.

I am seriously getting quite annoyed with Skype and all the problems it has on Android.  If any of the members here are facing the same problem and have found a fix for this issue I would really appreciate it.  However, having found an alternative pretty good Voip service, although not of the same stability as Skype (when it works!), if Skype cannot be fixed I will simply abandon it as a Voip facility to make cheap phone calls.  It is not worth the hustle and not knowing the next time you might want to use it that it won't be there...
