Hi. I have an HTC Evo 4G mobile phone. Here is the most BIZARRE issue.
When I am trying to call someone on Skype on my HTC EVO 4G handset, and I am on WIFI ONLY, the following happens:
As soon as I initiate a call, the phone is AWAY from my face, and therefore the sensor inside the earpiece does NOT turn off the LCD to save battery.
When I put the phone CLOSE TO MY EAR AND FACE, the call just BREAKS AND PAUSES, nothing happens! As soon as I take the phone AWAY from my ear, the call is normal and I can hear everything fine?
So what I did is, I tried making a outgoing call and THIS TIME I left it on speakerphone. When I turned on speakerphone, it was CLEAR and it did NOT BREAK UP OR PAUSE AT ALL!
When I am dialing a call on Skype, on my HTC EVO 4G handset, but this time I am on 3G, when I put the phone NEAR MY EAR AND FACE, it does NOT BREAK UP OR PAUSE. Also, I confirmed speakerphone works fine. So when I am on 3G, the issue I have with Skype over WIFI, and placing the phone near my EAR AND FACE, does NOT happen?
So the question is: Why is Skype BREAKING UP AND PAUSING the call when I am on WIFI, and placing the phone NEAR MY EAR AND FACE? Why does it NOT do this when I am on 3G?
I have tried the following to fix the problem:
-Hard reset device
-Reinstalled ROM, fresh clean install, clean cache, everything
-Updated to the latest firmware
-Updated to the latest software- I am on Andriod v. 2.3.5 now and it still and issue!!!
-Tried installing Skype on my MicroSD (still did NOT work)
-Tried installing older versions of Skype
-Disable video calling in settings
-Tried another WIFI router, and DSL connection from 3 locations (DID NOT HELP!)
So what is the problem?? And why does the call BREAK AND PAUSE ONLY when I put the phone up to my EAR AND FACE, when I am on WIFI?? Why is the call clear on speakerphone though, if I am WIFI?? Skype works on my laptop, other computers, other mobile phones but NOT my HTC EVO 4G!
This issue is TOTALLY unacceptable, and I had purchased this phone, one of my primary reasons was to ONLY use Skype! What a waste that has been now.

Samsung TAB GT-P1000, Android Gingerbread 2.3.3 with Skype v 220.127.116.117 and Nokia BH905i headset.
Whenever I or the other part starts talking all sound drops - and I have to change to speakerphone. A bug in the new version?
All other bluetooth activity works fine when using The TAB with 3G or GSM with regular calls.
Edit 24.2.2012"There seems to be a general problem with this issue regardless of brands of headset or android device">>
Any comments from Skype Support? I would like to subscribe to unlimited Europe, but if this does not work on android - I can't.
Edit 15.05.2012: Upgraded to Skype 18.104.22.1680 - and the bluetooth problem got worse. Have to restart the phone/device completely. the quickfix to "kill" the skype bakcground prosess does not work anymore. Another issue.. If the bluetooth connection fails, it is impossible to use Skype at all - even with wired headphones. Have to totally reboot to use Skype at all
Horrible, after the latest update of Skype 2.8 for Android everything went to the gutter.
Previously on my Huawei Mercury, Skype was stable.
Now, it crashes so frequently that it actually almost next to unusable.
Video call quality has also been considerably worst than before too!
And I know this is the Android section, but the latest update for the iOS Skype is also pretty much unusable. Sleek and nice looking? Yes, very much so.
But usable and stable? You've got a long way to go, Skype.
a better Skype for Android ? uh uh ...ever since I downloaded the updated Android Skype 2.8 to my ASUS Transformer 2 weeks ago, every time get a new im , I get ALL im's I've received in the past 2 weeks ...it sucks, since I have to clear every one of them to see what new ones I've received ...what to do ????????????????????????????? it's driving me nuts ...(headbang)
Has anyone out there successfully installed SFA 2.8 on an Android device?
I want to by a new Android Tablet running Android 4.0
If skype actually doesn't work on it - what's the point of buying it?
So --- are there actually any success storys out there with SFA 2.8 on Android 4.0?
