Have followed your instructions can confim that skype works with that apn however my internet i,e browsing and facebook is rather flacky sometimes get page cannot be displayed etc???
that might be because you are using the orangeWAP APN, which I was told by orange is suppose to provide an internet experience that is not as rich as when using the orangeinternet APN. But maybe this is only true for some phones because on my HTC I have notice no difference at all between the two.
I had the same problem with my Samsung Galaxy P1000 and Orange network. The new WAP settings solved that.
Hurrah! Thank you very much to the guys who found this solution!
Thanks for the solution. I am on T-mobile facing the same problem. Could somebody offer a solution for the same.
2 posts of mine say how i made my phone work on orange;
I just spent an hour with a lady on orange 2nd line support. All of them seem to be pretty clueless as to this blocking of Skype over 3G.
As a network administrator, i've done a lot of my own troubleshooting. Skype works fine on my phone with "TalkMobile" simcard in it.
So anyway, long story short, I now have Skype working over 3G on my Samsung Galaxy S III on Orange. I got their analyst to send the 'WAP' APN settings to my phone. I still have a 3G connection and can confirm it works when switching over to the T-Mobile towers. The APN now reads as 'orangeworld.co.uk' whereas before it was just 'orangeinternet' (which worked perfectly up until around the 15th of this month). So, i got her to log a support call for the fault anyway as we've narrowed it down to the 'orangeinternet' APN.
It might work for you by going here http://setuporange.wdsglobal.com/internet and selecting your phone. I tried this before, which worked for all of 1 minute then failed agian. But i've had a stable connection for 20 mins now. I think it might stay this time.
Orange are extremely inconsistent with their information.
My last issue with orange was when i got my first 3G capable phone, and i could only get GPRS on it. it took me 5 phone calls and different people telling me 'There was cell tower work in the area and should be back up in a few days'. This spanned from London to Nottingham. Eventually the last person worked out that my SIM card was too old to use 3G. sent me a new one. worked fine after that.
If anyone tries calling Orange again, ask to speak to their 2nd line, or get the 2nd line to send you GPRS settings.
