Insufficient space to install

I recently updated skype to the new build on my Droid Charge (Froyo). It seemed buggy, so I uninstalled it, then when I tried to reinstall, it gave me an error stating "insufficient space available" - but I have nearly 1 gig left on my internal storage. Any ideas?

Re: Insufficient space to install

There is a bit of information about how to fix this problem. Skype itself is refusing to acknowledge that it's its problem.

Basically, when you uninstall Skype for Android it leaves behind a directory. When you try to reinstall Skype the presence of that directory causes this error.

Yo need to be able to "root" the phone or device, log in using a terminal emulator and then to manually remove the offending directory.

I managed to do it after a bit of mucking about.

However, the app is still buggier than a wheat farm during a locust plague. Force Closes, constantly disconnecting/reconnecting, and video calling doesn't work.

This forum won't let me post a URL, presumably to counter spam. Do a search for the following text:

forum.skype.com/index.php?showtopic=785649&st=20&p=3287199&#entry3287199

Please note the Skype staffer who made a comment about it in January, 6 months ago. And to date, nothing has been done about it.

Re: Insufficient space to install

I get that error with every update to skype. I don't know why it is caused, but what I do know is that if you uninstall skype and then install the new version, no such error occurs. it works for me, and I am very sorry it doesn't work for you. perhaps restarting the phone after uninstalling skype would help?
