I have just installed Skype 2.8.0.920 on my GN. I bought a number (US) and some minutes. I have also logged on on my windows 7 pc. I have some of the same issues. Sometimes on the GN it logs off and wont let me log back on. I miss calls on the GN, I hear it ringing on the computers but i want to take the call on the GN. I get the animating "working" circle very often - what the hell is it doing? I have requested many contacts to allow me to have them in my contacts. Every time i log off and log back on, Skype shows these as having new unread messages, (red circle with the numbers) - its really annoying. After getting used to the other messaging (whatsapp gomedia etc) interfaces - the Skype interface make me feel to uninstall it, i cant see message threads organized properly by default. Its hard to search for new contacts, it searches my existing contacts. Too often Skype chooses to make default calls to paid mobile numbers instead of free Skype calls. Skype appears to be abusing the notification area of the display (upper left hand corner) of the GN, by placing too many notifications some of which are false. Contacts say that they dont see my requests. This is really terrible i am thinking of ditching Skype, its too much trouble.
