There must have been an upgrade to the Skype network during the past few months that is causing these devices to not work properly. When I purchased my Galaxy Nexus 6 months ago, the Skype app worked fine. Now it shows me as being online, but the rotating circle just keeps going as though it's not completely connected. None of my contacts show, but I show online to them. It also won't let me video call even though I've selected that option.
My wife decided to try the Skype app on her netbook, which has been on there for many months. I found it wouldn't connect until I downloaded the latest version for Windows. Now it works fine. I would say that Skype needs to update the Android app to match whatever changes they have apparently made to their network.

I just downloaded the skype app from the google play store. I have a galaxy nexus running android 4.0.4 and skype version 2.8.0920. When connecting using a video call, I am able to see my contact, but they cannot see me. They can see on their end when I try to turn on video, as it says "initiating video", but no matter what I try, it continues to say video off.
From what I've been reading, this was supposed to be fixed a couple of releases ago. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.
Thanks

Thanks for submitting your results - seems that something strange is going on. I use a Galaxy Nexus as my main phone, and also use Skype on several Macs. I don't have any video calling problems between any of these endpoints. Rest assured that it's one of the main scenarios we test against on a daily basis. There must be some other issue at play here. Any thoughts?

just got the Galaxy NEXUS phone on Sprint, there were some issuse with locking on to data when off the in house WiFi, that seemed to have been resolved , I downloaded Skype for Android off the Google Play site however, Skype message this phone is not yet approved and for some reason refuses to log on, both in WiFi mode or 3G.
It's May 14 2012. Is this still an issue? any recommendatios would be appreciated. Do I need to get a different version that will work vs the Google Play site? thoughts?

Let me give you all a heads up: Verizon and Skype really don't care if you can use their software on 4G or not. I bought the Thunderbolt specifially for Skype so I could use it to do live video of our children to the grandparents. What a crock! It has been over a year and neither one will work to support what at the time was the cutting edge 4G phone. I have NEVER been able to use the video features of my Tbolt.
I am beginning to think that the smartphone "revolution" is simply a bait and switch to get people to spend enormous sums of money for very little bandwidth and lots of promises of "We'll get this fixed REAL SOON." In the end, they got your money and as long as they can string us along with posts of "we're working on it" with no real results, then we continue to be the suckers that they think we are.
Prove me wrong Skype/Verizon. Get it fixed for the Thunderbolt. Waiting... waiting... crickets.

I'm glad I found this post, I've spent hours and A LOT of frustration this weekend trying to get Skype to work so that my son could see his grandfather. I thought I was losing my mind. I'm running 4.0.4 on a Verizon Galaxy Nexus. I tried both the Verizon Network and wi-fi and if would not connect. Any word from Skype on this? I saw they posted a comment a long time ago, update from their camp?
